ACFL3B (Round One)

Na Fianna start with win

Rathkenny will rue missed chances in this opening round B League Division 3 game played in Enfield last Sunday 4th March.

Na Fianna opened the scoring with a second minute point. Rathkenny replied on five minutes when Jack Gore reacted quickest to a mix up in the home defence to finish to the net. Na Fianna settled and kicked some fine points during the first half. Rathkenny overcomplicated their approach play and managed only four first half points from Colin Curtis, Cathal McCabe, Michael McBride and Jack Gore. Rathkenny net minder Andrew Finney kept them in the game with three good first half saves. The sides finished 1-4 to 0-7 at the break.

The second half ebbed and flowed as both sides scored some nice points but the game turned in Na Fianna’s favour when a high centre was connected to the net on 46 minutes to increase the lead to four points. Rathkenny were chasing the game for the remainder but Na Fianna kept at least two between the sides until the finish.

ACFL3B (Round Two)

Castletown take home points

A goal two minutes from time ensured Castletown took home the points in this entertaining B League Division 3 game played in sunny Rathkenny last Sunday, March 25th.

The hosts send over the opening point through Cody Reilly in the opening minute. The visitors were level within a minute before points from Reilly and a brace from Jack Gore put Rathkenny three up on ten minutes. Castletown replied with three points of their own to level matters on twenty-one minutes. Colin Curtis attacked from the backs to send over a great score on twenty two minutes and Michael McBride extended the lead to two, three minutes later. Castletown reduced the gap with five minutes left in the half before Jack Gore sent over his third point of the game. Castletown sent over a free with the last kick of the half to leave the hosts leading by one at the break.

Gore extended the lead in the opening minute of the second half, before the visitors sent over the next two scores to level matters once again on forty minutes. Gore added another point before the visitors went in front with the next two scores. Rathkenny got a penalty on fifty minutes which was calmly slotted home by Cody Reilly. It was to prove to be their final score as Castletown sent over two points to leave the minimum in it entering the final two minutes. They went for the equaliser but it landed short and popped out of keeper Andrew Finney’s grasp and was dispensed to the net. Both sides had opportunities to add to their tally but neither did.

Rathkenny gain first league win

Rathkenny came away from this B League Division 3 game played in Bohermeen last Wednesday evening May 2nd with full points.

Rathkenny settled well with early scores from Cody Reilly and Cathal McCabe. The visitors had played some good football in the opening half and had a strong lead when further scores from Michael McBride (2), Barry Carolan, Cathal McCabe, Colin Curtis and Damien McBride left them in control, but they let the hosts in for a couple of late first half scores to leave it 0-08 to 0-05 at the break.

Rathkenny continued where they left off in the second half when they added seven further points all from play. Cathal McCabe opened the second half account with his third point. Darren Barron added three of his own and Colin Curtis added to his first half account with a further score. Wingback Damien McBride brought his evenings total to three points as the defence restricted St Ultans to three second half points to run out comfortable winners in the end.

Rathkenny ease to victory

Rathkennys dominant first half display was enough to take the points in this B League Division 3 game played in Rathkenny last Monday evening, May 21st.

Cortown 1-06

Rathkenny kicked 1-10 in the opening half and were in total control. Cathal McCabe kicked over an opening free followed quickly by a brace of scores from Darren Barron. Colin Curtis kept the scores coming with a pointed free. Barron added his third shortly after followed by another score from Colin Curtis.

Cathal McCabe was quickest to react to a high ball as he collected and drilled to the net. Cortown popped over their only first half score before McCabe added three further points. The final score came from Barron right on half time.

Cortown dug deeper in the second half and shared the scoring spoils of 1-05 apiece with their hosts. Rathkenny got early scores from Barry Carolan (2) and Michael McBride. The contest was over when Cathal McCabe found himself one on one with the Cortown net minder as he calmly slotted home his second goal of the night. Rathkenny emptied the subs bench before Damien McBride completed Rathkennys tally with two late scores. Cortown added a goal from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game.

ACFL3B (Round Six)

Visitors continue winning ways

Rathkenny continued their recent run of good form with a seven point victory over hosts Syddan in this B League Division 3 game played last Tuesday evening May 29th.

Top scorer on the night Darren Barron opened Rathkennys account with a sixth minute point. The hosts levelled soon after and were in front after an eighteenth minute score. Rathkenny sent over three points in the final seven minutes of the half through Cathal McCabe (2) and Barron to lead by two at the break.

Rathkenny half back Niall Brannigan sent over a lovely score three minutes after the break to extend the lead. Cathal McCabe sent over after a great move on thirty six minutes. Darren Barron added his third of the evening a minute later. Syddan replied with their first second half score on thirty nine minutes. Rathkenny were in control and added the next three scores through Barron (2) and Cathal McCabe with his fourth of the game. Syddan kept battling and were rewarded with their final point of the game five minutes from time. Darren Barron added his sixth point of the game with a free three minutes from time.
